Clear boundaries for a portfolio-grade marketplace.
These notes describe what the included project demonstrates and what a real operator must configure before public commercial use.
Marketplace demo scope
GearFlow is a portfolio demonstration of a rental marketplace architecture. Demo accounts, listings, payments and review data are synthetic unless explicitly replaced by a deployment owner.
Payments and escrow
The application models authorization, manual verification, escrow hold, release, refund and dispute resolution. A deployment must configure and contract its own payment providers before accepting real money.
P2P responsibility
Owners remain responsible for the accuracy, ownership and condition of equipment they list. Renters remain responsible for lawful use and return under the accepted rental terms.
Privacy
Public owner profiles intentionally omit private email, phone and exact pickup addresses. Production deployments should add a jurisdiction-appropriate privacy policy, retention rules and identity-verification provider.
Open-source dependencies
React, Next.js, NextAuth, Mongoose, Tailwind CSS and other dependencies remain governed by their own licenses. This repository does not relicense third-party packages.
